Crown Reduction
Crown reduction is a pruning technique used to control the size of a tree while maintaining the structure and shape of its crown. It involves reducing the height of the tree and shortening the side lateral branches, leaving the tree with the best possible shape.
Crown Thinning
Crown thinning involves removing inner branches evenly to reduce the density of the canopy to allow light to travel through and better air circulation, which will reduce die back to inner branches. This will not have any effect on the tree's natural shape.
Crown Lifting
Crown lifting is the removal of the lower branches to lift the height of the crown's base. This will give better clearance between the ground and lower branches.
Dead Wooding
Dead wooding involves removing dead branches from within the tree. Dead wood can be caused by a lack of sunlight, pests, disease or damage to the roots.
Felling / Removal
Felling can only be carried out where there is significant space around the tree. This is where the tree is cut at the base and dropped to the ground. Removal is carried out when trees are in a more confined space than felling allows. This is done by safely climbing the tree with a rope and harness and dismantling the limbs in sections. Sometimes extra equipment is needed, such as rigging gear, which allows us to lower the branches to the ground under control to avoid obstructions and damage to the ground. When a tree is not safe to climb, a platform may be needed for safety.
Hedge Trimming / Removal
Hedge trimming needs to be carried out regularly once hedges are established, to encourage new growth and maintain density. Hedges can be cut to your required height and shape, keeping them looking tidy within your boundaries. Hedge removal may be necessary when a hedge has grown too large or has started to die back in places, making it unsafe and no longer manageable — which can leave no alternative but removal.
Stump Grinding
Stump grinding is where the stump is ground down using a machine with a cutting disc, removing the stump and roots below ground level so it looks as though the tree was never there.
Garden Clearance
Garden clearance may be necessary when trees and shrubs have been left unattended for some time and the garden needs to be cleared. This is done by removing unwanted trees and shrubs, and taking out the stumps from the ground, so that you can replant or landscape the area.
Pollarding
Pollarding is a method of pruning that keeps trees and shrubs smaller than they would naturally grow. It is generally carried out when trees and shrubs have grown too large for their location. It can be carried out yearly to maintain the tree, and only certain species can be pollarded.
